Autour des relevés de chants d’oiseaux d’Olivier Messiaen…

Olivier Messiaen déclarait : « Les oiseaux ont tout inventé, le chromatisme et le diatonisme, les quarts de tons, et même l’improvisation collective. » Son remarquable travail de relevés de chants d’oiseaux est omniprésent dans son langage musical et dans de nombreuses pages de son œuvre.
Les compositions d’Olivier Py pour ce groupe sont inspirées par certains fragments des transcriptions de Messiaen, ou dérivent plus librement de la vivacité de leur geste musical. Autour de ce matériel musical exceptionnel, les propositions varient : rythme, harmonie, timbres, formes,… comme autant de regards possibles sur cette matière foisonnante et sur les possibilités de la mettre en musique.
Le résultat est une musique multiple, joyeuse, un jazz résolument contemporain, à la fois libre et structuré par un vocabulaire exigeant.

Olivier Messiaen said : « Birds have invented everything, chromaticism and diatonicism, quarter tones, and even collective improvisation. » His vast and remarkable transcription work of bird songs is omnipresent in his musical language and in his masterpieces.
The compositions of Olivier Py for this trio are inspired by fragments of Messiaen’s transcriptions, or are freely derived from their musical vivacity. There are various musical proposals base on this exceptional material : rhythm, harmony, timbres, forms, … like many possible approaches to this abundance of rhythmic and melodic forms.
The result is a music of multiplicity, contemporary jazz, both free and structured by the strict vocabulary of the transcriptions.
